The position of presumption will without fail leave the Believer in a place which the Lord can never honor. God has a purpose for each every person born of water (child birth) but sadly far too many take the wide path. They do not grow up knowing the ways of the Lord according to the Bible and for those who do, far too many cast the precepts of God aside as our feelings and vain philosophies become our moral code.
Presumption assumes the Lord will bless us even as we are not in His Will. Presumption assumes a “yes and amen” even though God’s answer is no. To be sure, if the Lord brings you to it, He will certainly bring you through it but for many our self will, talent, ambition, intellect, etc. has brought us there. The devil came to steak, kill and destroy and we ran off chasing satan’s purpose. With our faith in the carrot dangled in front of us, our faith in the Cross of Christ deteriorates. We no longer are looking to Jesus Christ and Him crucified as the Source and the means by which receive the “yes and amen” from God but to the carrot, whatever the carrot may be, and fully expect a “well done” when we finally conquer the carrot.
My friend, that’s not how God works. That’s how the world works but not the Lord.
“For all the promises of God in Him are yes, and in Him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.” 2 Corinthians 1:20
ALL of the Promises of God are conditional but not on our ability to gain them via our obedience. That my friend is called ambition, not faith. The Promises of God “in Him”, IN JESUS, are yes and amen. There will be no carrot dangling but a peace, a peace beyond all understanding as we look unto the Cross of Christ and rest. His Yoke IS light.
Beware of the position of presumption. That’s the devil’s will, not God’s. The fruit of presumption is arrogance and self righteousness which leads to death…spiritual death. The fruit of faith in Jesus Christ and Him crucified, leads to peace beyond all understanding…even as the storms of this world toss our ships to and fro.
It is IN CHRIST that the Believer’s blessings are yes and amen. It is IN CHRIST that we are made free from the Law of Sin and Death by the power of the Holy Spirit. It is IN CHRIST and CHRIST alone, that we will cross that Jordan river on dry ground. The Holy Spirit is not commissioned to superintend the work of God in our heart when our faith is placed in another source or another means to receive from God. It is Jesus Christ and Him crucified or it is sinking sand. Choose Jesus. His Blood was and is and will forever be enough.

Thank you. My husband and I are looking for a new place to worship, and we wanted to find a place where we can use our ordained status. But lately I have had to ask myself, “Why are you so determined to be seen or heard?” You gave it a name: presumption and ambition. Instead, we should ask, “Lord, where do you want us? Show us your will.” It’s hard to differentiate our ambition and What God calls us to do.
