“And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me;  for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”  Acts 1:4-5

Now that you are saved you should ask the Lord to Baptize you with the Holy Spirit.  Please understand there is a difference in being “born of the Spirit” at your conversion and being “Baptized in the Holy Spirit”.  Every Christian receives a measure of the Holy Spirit and the Spirit will bear witness to their spirit of sonship (Romans 8:16-17).   The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is a separate experience.

• “He (Paul) said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.” Acts 19:2

The disciples of John the Baptist could receive the baptism of water but the disciples of Jesus Christ can receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.  This was a common part of the Gospel of Jesus Christ that Apollos learned in Acts 18:26, hence Paul’s inquiry.  The early church expected all Believer’s to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and saw that they received it (Acts 19:1-6).

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is for all, Jews and Gentiles alike (Acts 10:44-48).

• “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but He that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:” Matthew 3:11.

Being Baptized in the Holy Spirit is a free gift from God and just as all gifts from God, what we believe Him for is what we receive.

• “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?”

The initial physical evidence of being Baptized in the Holy Spirit has always been and will always be speaking in other tongues.  Some ask what language will I speak?  The Bible says it is  “tongues of men or angels”.

• “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Acts 2:4
• “And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.” Acts 19:6

All of this being said, please allow me to make one thing perfectly clear, the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is not a requirement of Salvation.  The Word of God says “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house” Acts 16:30-31.  Let no man tell you there are any other requirements to one’s Salvation other than faith on the Lord Jesus Christ.   “By grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9.

Furthermore, allow me to also say this.  Baptism in the Holy Spirit endues one with power for service.

• “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me, in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” -Acts 1:8

 

If you want to receive the free gift of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, ask Him now:

Heavenly Father,

I am a believer. I am Your child and You are my Father. Jesus is my Lord. I believe with all my heart that Your Word is true.

Your Word says if I will ask, I will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. So in the Name of Jesus Christ, my Lord, I am asking You to fill me to overflowing with Your precious Holy Spirit. Jesus, baptize me in the Holy Spirit.

Because of Your Word, I believe that I now receive and I thank You for it. I believe the Holy Spirit is within me and, by faith, I accept it.

Now, Holy Spirit, rise up within me as I praise God. I fully expect to speak with other tongues, as You give me the utterance.

Now begin giving sound to the expressions in your heart. Speak and hear the Holy Spirit speaking through you.

Rejoice! You’ve just been baptized in the Holy Spirit! You’ve been endued with power—Hallelujah!
