“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” 2 Timothy 3:1-5.
Our willful blindness to the Word of God is not God’s fault. The Lord has given us His Word and His Holy Spirit to guide and direct us. The Bible specifically tells us ” Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” 1 John 4:1.
The Cross of Jesus Christ exposes religion and the works of the flesh. It is us, our fallible flesh, that has forsaken the Truth of the Gospel of Jesus and accepted religion. Religion appealed to our flesh; it made us feel a part of something but it was not of God. Christianity is not religion but a Man, The Man Jesus Christ. The woman at the well went to the city and said “Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?” John 4:29. Jesus exposed her sin but did not condemn her which caused her to believe. It is the convicting power of the Holy Spirit that produces the guilt (not condemnation but conviction) required for repentance. A confession that ignores sin or that doesn’t require a need for a pardon is a confession to and for religion, not Jesus Christ. The Lord is looking for Holy worship, not holy worshippers.
“Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of Him that sent me, and to finish His work.” John 4:34. Jesus has given us authority to use His name to perform the will of the Father (1 John 5:14-15)…not the will of man by the scheme of man. In order for us to “finish His work” as well, we must be in His will and it will be HIS work. God’s work will be born of the Spirit and not of the flesh.
Religion is born of the flesh and does not have the convicting power of the Holy Spirit. Religion’s works lack that which causes one’s heart to change which exposes the need for a pardon. Religion will promote taking it day by day because it doesn’t know the delivering power of the Holy Ghost. The Sabbath of the flesh is a particular day depending on the religion of choice, while the Sabbath born of the spirit is resting in Jesus Christ – HE is our Sabbath every day, 24 hours a day.
Come, come see this Man who told me of my sin and I believed Him. Come see the One who delivered me from the bondages of alcohol and nicotine. I didn’t have to take it day by day with this Man. This Man told me to go and sin no more and the chains were broken. This Man is Jesus Christ, He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. – Donna Warren
