The Vail of Moses

“And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the Old Testament; which vail is done away in Christ.  But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.  Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.  But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 Cor. 3:13-18.

The Law of Moses was meant to be and was fulfilled by Jesus.  It is in Him, Jesus, that we are changed into the likeness of Him with the vail then removed and the Lord’s glory  revealed.   The glory no longer fades but grows stronger.   The Law was not meant to be fulfilled by us, if we could fulfill the Law, Jesus’ Sacrifice was in vain.  Every feast, every ceremony and every Sacrifice was a type and shadow of the Lord Jesus Christ.  The vail was taken away in Christ Jesus, yet there remain many who fail to see and choose to remain under the vail of ritual and ceremony.  Jesus satisfied the curse of the Law by fulfilling the Law and dying on the Cross.

Even when done with the uttermost sincerity, the results remain the same when we place ourselves under the Law and not Grace.  When under Law, our faith is always and without fail placed on that law and not Jesus’ finished work and it is there that our sin nature is given dominion.  The Holy Spirit cannot endue one with power who has faith in their own self efforts and not Jesus (Romans 8:2).  Our little effort that we add to obtain that righteousness is that leaven that will leaven the whole lump and it is called pride and self righteousness.

The only Truth is through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.  It is there, the same place we came in to Salvation, that the Holy Spirit is commissioned to guide us into all Truths, not some Truths but all Truths.  “Howbeit when He, the Spirit of Truth, is come, He will guide you into all Truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come.” John 16:13.   Any “truth” found in our self efforts, feasts, festivals, 40 days and 12 steps is not Truth but deceit.

satan will not and cannot usurp the power of the Holy Spirit when our faith is placed on Jesus Christ but he, satan, can usurp our misguided efforts.  This is not a matter of gaining victory over our sin nature but maintaining victory over our sin nature.  Victory was given to us the day we were born again.  If the Lord has delivered you from the “worldly” sins (drinking, fornication, adultery, etc.) don’t allow satan to seduce you over to the “religious” sins of self righteousness and pride through misguided faith.  Just because one’s sin is “religious” and the other’s is “worldly” doesn’t change the fact that it is sin.

The Law was not meant for us to fulfill.  It was to show us our inability to fulfill the requirements to obtain righteousness.  Jesus Christ came to fulfill the Law and it is not until we look to Him and have faith in Him that the vail is lifted.  Once that vail is lifted and our eyes are opened to the glory of the Lord, there is no looking back to any form of Law or type and shadow of Jesus.  If you choose to observe the feasts and call Jesus Yahweh instead of Jesus, that is your decision.  If you call me by my Hebrew name, you are still talking about “me”.  The Word of God is about Jesus Christ, who He is and what He has done and if the majority of the church will start studying His Word instead of traditions, they too will find Jesus….He is at the door knocking.  – Donna Clark Warren
