Learn of Him

“Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” Matthew 11:29.

Jesus said “learn of Me”.

Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death? Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:” Romans 6:3-5.

Please understand, until we learn of Jesus Christ, of what He did and Who He is, and our faith is placed on what His death accomplished on Calvary’s Cross, victory over sin and death, we will never be planted together in the likeness of His death.  As long as we think the written Word of God is about us and not the Living Word, Jesus Christ, we will never see the righteousness of Jesus but the “righteousness” of ourselves…self righteousness.

Until we learn of Him, Jesus Christ, it is not possible to be in the likeness of His resurrection.  Just as our guilt as a sinner is a fact and not a feeling, so too is our forgiveness.  Being forgiven does not constitute perfection but it also doesn’t constitute permission…permission to sin.  Once we realize our guilt, we understand the reason for His death.  Society would have us think we are instinctively good but the Bible tells us we are filthy rags without Jesus. The written Word of God tells us the Living Word, Jesus, came to give us life and life more abundantly for those who believe in Him.

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:1-2.

If our faith is not placed solely and exclusively of Jesus Christ, until we learn of Him and what He has done, we cannot and will not be in the likeness of His resurrection.  The Holy Spirit can only free us from the law of sin and death when our faith is placed in Jesus’ finished work.  It is then that we experience the likeness of His resurrection.  Learn of Him, Jesus Christ…His yoke is easy and you will find rest for your wary soul.  – Donna Clark Warren
