“20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.”
25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
26 For you see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, has God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
29 That no flesh should glory in His presence.” 1 Corinthians 1:20-29
Signs will follow those who believe in Jesus Christ and what He accomplished on Calvary’s Cross…we do not require a sign to believe. The Power of God is the Cross of Christ because it is there that our sin debt was paid. When our faith is placed in Christ and Him crucified, the Holy Spirit (in Whom the Power of God resides) is given latitude to do a mighty work in the life of the Believer…and signs will follow.
The Greeks were wise in their own minds. They sought after mystical interpretations of Scripture, just as many do today. Intellectualism is not the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and Him crucified but is in fact another gospel. Many modern churches seek after wisdom of God but know not God. With their mouths they worship God but their hearts are far from Him (Matthew 15:8-9).
To the Jews, Jesus Christ and His finished work on Calvary’s Cross was a stumbling block because He did not come at that time to take the Throne and make Israel great again. To the Greeks, the preaching of Jesus Christ and Him crucified was foolishness because they did not believe Jesus Christ’s death on Calvary’s Cross could redeem the world and solve the problems of man.
Let me be clear, no flesh…no self efforts will glory in the presence of God. Prayer shawls, yamakas, feasts, festivals, ceremonies, blood moons, harbingers and the like are of the wisdom of the world, not the wisdom of God. This wisdom being taught by the modern day philosophers, know not God but through their intellectualism deceive others into following them into a ditch. Too many go about daily thinking they are saved because they went through a ceremony as a child and are members of a certain church, yet they have never accepted Jesus Christ and their Lord and Saviour.
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know you the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:“. 1 John 4:1-2.
Jesus Christ came in the flesh to redeem the world and give us the power to live unto God. Before our Salvation we could not live unto God because our faith was in our self effort and self will and not in Jesus Christ and His atoning work on the Cross. After our Salvation, we still cannot live unto God when our faith is in our self efforts for victory over the world, the flesh and the devil…no flesh will glory in the presence of God.
Is the preaching of Christ and Him crucified a stumbling block for you? Is it foolishness? To us who are saved it is the power of God and are determined to know nothing else among you.
“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.” 2 Corinthians 6:17.
