“12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teach, but which the Holy Ghost teaches; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 But he that is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.” 1 Corinthians 2:12-15
The things of the Spirit of God are foolish to the natural man. The natural man has not received the Holy Spirit, that they may know the things which are freely given to the Child of God. Man’s wisdom cannot teach the things of God; such things are not intellectual but spiritual and the Holy Spirit bears witness (Romans 8:16). The Scripture says the Spirit of God will guide us into all Truths; He will not speak of Himself but will show us that which would come…the New Covenant (At the time John 16:13 was written, the New Covenant had not yet been given.).
“Howbeit when He, the Spirit of Truth, is come, He will guide you into all Truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come.” John 16:13
The Spirit of Truth has come to those who have believed and there is no more condemnation for those who are led by Him. At times we may falter; we may even stumble and fall, but we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ (1 John 2:1) Whose Spirit, the Holy Spirit, calls us to repentance and moves us forward with Him.
“17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the Gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the Cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
18 For the preaching of the Cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:17-18
If something seems foolish, discern the foolishness. The things of the Spirit of God are foolish to the natural man. The spiritual are to judge all things. We are to discern whether they be of the Spirit or of the flesh. This is not judging according to appearance but following the Spirit of God.
The Child of God has been given the Word of God and the Spirit of God to guide us into all Truths. They will never contradict one another but always point to the Cross of Christ as the Source and the means by which we receive from God. Faith placed there, in the finished work of Jesus Christ, gives the Holy Spirit latitude to do that which He is commissioned to do in the Believer’s life…guide us into all Truths according to the Word of God and free us from the law of sin and death which gives us dominion over sin.
With our faith in Jesus Christ and Him crucified, we are allowing the Holy Spirit to superintend the work of God in our life. Be determined to know nothing else among you.
“For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.” 1 Corinthians 2:2
