Free Indeed

set free

28 Then said Jesus unto them, When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then shall you know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father has taught Me, I speak these things.

29 And He that sent Me is with Me: the Father has not left Me alone; for I do always those things that please Him.

30 As He spoke these words, many believed on Him.

31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on Him, If you continue in My Word, then are you My Disciples indeed; 32 And you shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you free.” John 8:28-32

The sinner is called to believe on Jesus, the Believer is called to continue in His Word and you shall know the Truth and the Truth shall make you free.  Sadly, many who choose to believe Jesus atoned for all sin on Calvary’s Cross, fail to continue in His Word and never come to the understanding of the Truth, the same Truth, makes us free from the power of sin.

Upon believing, the religious will present questionnaires, methods and various other philosophies to gain freedom from sin.  12 steps, 40 days, 100 ways, etc. all utilize the Believers efforts to “gain” the freedom which is freely given to Jesus’ Disciples upon continuing in His Word.  It is not a matter of “gaining” but “maintaining” in this Truth which makes us free; maintaining our faith in the Cross of Christ.  Fighting the good fight of faith in the Cross of Christ is the only fight of which the Believer is called to engage.  These other methods given by the well intentioned religious corrupt this Truth which makes us free and makes It of no effect.  It is the poison in the pot; the leaven which leavens the whole lump.

For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the Gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the Cross of Christ should be made of none effect.” 1 Corinthians 1:17

The Truth will make you free but we must maintain our faith in this great Truth that we have been given and not be swept to and fro with every wind of doctrine.  The Truth is Jesus Christ paid the penalty of sin for the sinner, broke the power of sin for the Believer, He is Risen and now sits at the Right Hand of the Throne of God searching to and fro to show Himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward Him (2 Chronicles 16:9).  Seek Him.  Continue in His Word.  Be made free from the power of sin.

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” John 8:36
