“3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common Salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that you should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the Saints.
4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.” Jude 1:3-4
Contending for the faith, standing up for Biblical doctrine according to the Word of God, is offensive to the religious.
“For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
The Word of God will do what It says It will do. It WILL cut asunder and discern the thoughts and intents of the heart and when those thoughts and intents of our heart fail to line up with what the Word of God says we are driven to choose; to choose this day in whom we are going to serve.
Just as the sun melts wax, so too does the Word of God melt a humble heart. With one side of It’s sword, it causes fear and trembling when transgressed against. While the other edge, seers the wound with joy unspeakable for the revelation knowledge of a God Who loves us enough to correct us and keep us in His perfect Will.
On the other hand, the same sun that melts wax will harden clay. When the Word of God pierces a prideful heart, the heart is hardened. It is the condition of the heart that we must consider when presented with a Biblical Truth. Is our heart hardened or softened? It is the same Word of God..how are we receiving it?
Contending for the faith, faith in Jesus Christ and Him crucified, is received as foolishness or it is received as the Power of God. To the one who is perishing, their heart is hardened and the Cross of Christ is foolishness. To the one who is Saved, their heart is humbled…it is softened as wax under the Power of God unto Salvation.
“For the preaching of the Cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are Saved it is the power of God.” 1 Cor. 1:18
Decide this day in whom you are going to serve. Consider the condition of your heart today. Be determined to know nothing else among you save Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
