“15 He said unto them, But whom say you that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed are you, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood has not revealed it unto you, but My Father which is in Heaven.
18 And I say also unto you, That you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My Church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:15-18
Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father but by Him. When the lost wills to believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, God reveals Jesus unto them. The veil is rent and the believing sinner is born again; spiritually born again and alive unto God. It is upon THIS rock that the Church is built…the revelation of Jesus Christ, not Peter (sorry my Roman Catholic friends).
The Old Testament Saints knew and understood their was no way to the Ark of the Covenant except they first went to the Brazen Altar. It was at the Brazen Altar that the sacrifice of bulls and goats were made to atone for sin and restore fellowship with God the Father. Anyone who attempted to approach the Ark of the Covenant without first going to the Brazen Altar was immediately struck dead. It is the Holiness of God that instantly burns up sin. It quite simply cannot stand in the presence of God Almighty and when sinful man approaches the Throne of God any way other than God’s Way, their sin is not covered and they are thereby destroyed.
The Brazen Altar could not pay the penalty for sin. It took God becoming flesh, Jesus Christ, to go to the Altar and pay the penalty of sin so that fallen man can be redeemed unto God the Father if they will to do so. At Calvary, the penalty of sin was and is paid in full and the power of sin utterly broken for whosoever wills to believe.
The revelation of this simplicity is that which the Church is built upon. Once this revelation is given to the believing sinner we don’t stop learning of Jesus Christ, Who HE is and what HE has done for us who are now born again. No, not at all.
Jesus Christ is alive. He is sitting at the Right Hand of the Throne of God searching to and fro to show Himself strong in those whose hearts are perfect toward Him. Coming to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and Him crucified is the beginning of our fight of faith. A fight we fight daily. A fight to deny ourselves; our willpower, intellect, etc. and put on HIS YOKE and learn of HIM.
The hardest part of this fight is not leaning unto our own understanding.
“28 Come unto Me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For My Yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
It matters not if you have been born again 5 months or 50 years. Jesus Christ is alive and He never changes. We have His Word and the Holy Spirit to bear witness. Learn of Him. Seek Him. Come to know in Whom you have believed. One day soon and very soon our faith will become sight.
“But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33
