“28 Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take My Yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For My Yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
Christendom is full of modern day Sabbath Breakers. Is it because they work on Saturday or Sunday? No, not at all. As a matter of fact, those who point the finger at others working on such days are in fact the true Sabbath Breakers.
“25 And He (Jesus) said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?
26 How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?
27 And He said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath:
28 Therefore the Son of Man is Lord also of the Sabbath.” Mark 2:25-28
The Sabbath is not a day but a Man – THE Man Christ Jesus and our rest is in Him.
Sadly, the great sin of the Sabbath Breakers, both old and new, is the sin of indifference…not ignorance but indifference. The sin of indifference is brought to you by the lukewarm; those on the fence of Christendom who worship Christ with their mouths but their hearts are far from Him. Their religion brings much reproach to the Work of God as they go about waving His Banner to a lost and dying world but making the Cross of Christ of no effect for daily living for God because their faith is directed to another method for victorious Christian living. They do not rest in the finished work of Christ Jesus and depend on Him to meet their every need according to His riches in glory but instead rest in their abilities…their intellect, talent, willpower, etc..
“And He said to them all, If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” Luke 9:23
Just as the Israelites in Egyptian bondage, their labor is without end and their burden too heavy to bear. As the Cross of Christ is lifted up to them for the victory in which they seek, some will look and live…and praise be to God for EVERY soul that is delivered from bondage. As they look unto Christ, their First Love, and the Holy Spirit opens their eyes to the rest that is only found IN Jesus, the Divine Grace of God flows uninterrupted into their heart and into their lives no matter the circumstances.
Still, and regrettably so, their will be those who hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ and Him crucified presented unto them for daily living for God and merely nod. They do not mind if someone else lives by means of the Cross of Christ alone but in their hearts, that ‘doctrine’ is not sufficient. The unbelief in their heart hinders the ministry of the Holy Spirit and makes the Cross of no effect so they work…work without end. The conscience is soothed by their many wonderful works but their’s is a sin of indifference and they are in fact Sabbath Breakers.
“17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the Gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the Cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
18 For the preaching of the Cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are Saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:17-18
Prayerfully consider if you are a Sabbath Breaker yourself. As for me, I have to fight daily not to be one. It is the fight of faith…the only fight we as Believers are called to fight. There is peace beyond all understanding and joy unspeakable but it is only found when we rest; when we stand still and see the Salvation of the Lord. Seeing His mighty Hand moving in your heart and your life is an amazing thing. Often, we don’t recognize His Hand until we look back and remember where He has brought us from and we realize He is still leading us forward…like a Good Shephard; He will lead us and never forsake us. He has gone before us and prepared a place for us. Where He is, we will soon be. Rest in Him.
