The “flesh” is our human nature. It is our personal ability, talents, intellect, motivation, etc. It is our flesh that the false teachers and preachers appeal to; they tickle our ears with great swelling words in order to turn us away from the Cross of Christ for daily living for God and to fables. These fables being cloaked in Scripture deceive the very elect. They are presented as Biblical doctrine when they are nothing more than philosophies from the vanities of man’s mind.
As previously stated, all of this is done to appeal to the lusts of our flesh; our abilities, talents, motivation, etc. Regrettably this is the gospel so many of the modern churches proclaim. Their good works and swelling words are as the harlot on the corner of Proverbs 7 who with her much fair speech causes the simple to yield and they go after her straight away.
“24 Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.
25 Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.
26 For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.
27 Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.” Proverbs 7:24-27
I encourage you to read the entirety of Proverbs 7 with the knowledge of the harlot being false doctrine.
When the Believer walks after the flesh, which the majority do, we place ourselves back under the Government of Law. We are under the Dispensation of Grace but that does not mean that we are under the Law of Grace. Only those who are Born Again have the ability to live under the Law of Grace and to be sure, it is the precious Blood of Christ Jesus Who afforded us this right. There is absolutely no other Way to God except through the Blood of Christ and His Blood exclusively.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Romans 8:1
The Believer is called to walk after the Spirit, not the flesh. We are to deny ourselves, pick up our cross and follow Jesus (Luke 9:23); not indulge ourselves in the gospel of ‘you’. The motivation given from the pulpits across the nation have no power to change the heart of man. They have no power to circumcise the heart; to cut asunder and discern the thoughts of the heart. The swelling words which leaven fall to the ground against the weight of the sin which so easily besets us.
Until we deny ourselves, we cannot follow Jesus and walk after the Spirit. Until we choose this day in Whom we believe; in Whom we trust to take us through this storm, and deny ourselves, we will continue walking after the flesh. At Calvary, Jesus Christ broke the power of sin. Death, hell and the grave have been overcome by the power of God – Jesus Christ. As for me and my house, we have decided this day to believe the Word of the Lord. He has not forsaken us nor will He ever leave us. His Name is our strong tower and we run to it. We know that we know that we know that He is going to lead us home. Though none may go with me, as for me and my house – we have decided to follow Jesus.
