“That you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.” 1 Thessalonians 2:12
The enemy will do everything in his power to keep you from your calling. I know this because as I sit here trying to study the Word of God, the security alarm is steadily beeping (very annoying), the dog is barking, I have an unusual sinus headache and I need to be somewhere in 1 1/2 hours – none of these things are normal around here so that’s my sign that the enemy is trying to distract my message. HOWEVER, greater is He that is in me and these things will not hinder my work! James 4:7 “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
Some of us seek to fulfill the calling of God. We all have a purpose in the body of Christ but WE must be the ones to seek our purpose. Then when we seek it, we don’t give up and we don’t question because we know the author is also the finisher. We may be thrown into a pit and sold to Egypt as a slave but we don’t ask why. We know God has a plan. God used Joseph being thrown into the pit, sold to Egypt as a slave then cast away into the dungeon to save many lives in the famine…including the lives of his own family. The Lord is not surprised when the enemy attacks and He is not concerned. God actually laughs at the enemy. Psalms 2:4 “He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision.”
So why do we then worry when the enemy attacks? Why do we meditate on what the enemy is doing to us? Why don’t we begin to wonder, in awe, of what the Lord is going to do with our situation and begin to praise Him for His brilliance? Why do we doubt His power to turn our bad into good? We believe in the power of God when we look into a baby’s eyes and we see all of the potential for their prosperity. Even when they grow up, mess up and sometimes give up we still look at them and all they can accomplish. We see they have the world by the tail, it’s not too late for them but they need to start now. If they only knew all of our hopes and dreams for them. If they only knew it’s never too late. In 5 years they are going to be 5 years older regardless (good Lord willing). Do they still want to be in the same place 5 years later? We continue to love and support them throughout their lives and when and if they ever take that step, we are their biggest cheerleaders. We’ve seen it all along but now they are beginning to see; they are stepping into their own.
If this is how we feel about our own children, how much more does our Father in Heaven feel about us when He sees us struggling and doubting His authority and power? God has called each of us into His Kingdom. He wants to anoint us with power over the enemy and give us the authority to serve others. Yes, I said that correctly – authority to serve others. Through God’s grace, mercy and love for us, He has entrusted us to serve others as a member of His family. Don’t doubt His calling – declare His calling and walk in it with His authority and His glory shining brightly. Sometimes it is the pit that needs the brightest light. – Donna Warren
