Sugar Coated Gospel

“For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”       1 Corinthians 3:11

Here in the United States it’s football season.  Being from the southeast I feel like I live in the football capital!  For many, God is our God and football is our religion.  When our team wins, we can tell you play by play exactly how it happens….we don’t have to sugar coat it, WE WON!!  Well, that’s how I feel about Jesus!  As Jesse Duplantis says ” I read the back of the book and we win”.

Unlike football or any other sport, the Gospel of Jesus Christ does have life and death consequences.  Sugar coated gospel for the sake of entertainment is dangerous to the soul.  Quite frankly, I have been to some services where the singing, according to the worldly standards has been, let’s just say quite ear piercing.  BUT, with emphasis added, they aren’t singing to me.  Those people up there singing are singing their hearts out to God….not to me.  Then I have been to other services where the singing was top notch.  Full tilt concert!

I guess what I’m trying to say is, I’ve been to both kinds of services and it is the Holy Spirit moving in the Church that convicts.  The Holy Spirit is the difference, not the music.  Everyone has different tastes.  The new entertainment style does seem to attract a lot more younger people.  The prosperity and hypergrace preachers do seem to fill the pews while the fire and brimstone believers are slowly burning out.  In desperation to save the churches we’re turning away from the Gospel of Jesus and relying on worldly religion.  Praying for God to bless “our” ways instead of praying for His way, trusting His way; trusting the Gospel.

The Body of Christ IS a business but it is HIS business, not ours.  We are all commissioned to preach the Gospel.  Matthew 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’  Amen.”  We are not commissioned to add to or take anything away from the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  We are not commissioned to convict others.  We preach the Gospel, we show the love of Jesus and we get out of the Lord’s way.  We want the Holy Spirit to have His way because He is the one that does the convicting.  Man made religion can never take the place of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the conviction of the Holy Spirit.  Read the back of the book, Jesus has already won.  We don’t even have to play in the enemy’s game anymore because satan has read the back of the book also.  All we have to do is tell them about the star of the game – Jesus.  – Donna Warren
