How many times have we heard “you made your bed, now lie in it” ? It’s funny how the fundamental meaning of that phrase changes completely through the eyes of grace. What if “you” didn’t make that bed? What if the Lord made that bed for you, would you still lay in it? However, what if “you” did make that bed? What do you do then?
I am beginning to understand at what point we limit God. It seems we limit Him in the present. We often look back at His outpouring of mercy, grace, favor and love. We look forward in the things we are believing Him for. But what about today? What about this very moment? It is easy for “us” to handle today and let the Lord handle our tomorrows. Our infirmities, finances and afflictions are in the “now” and our faith is in tomorrow.
What if you’re not exactly sure who made that bed? There is no peace in that bed. Are you on the verge of your breakthrough or is God ruffling your nest to get you out of the bed? All of this sounds very confusing doesn’t it? THAT is our first clue! God is not a God of confusion. 1 Cor. 14:33 “For God is not the author of confusion but of peace…”.
Peace, there is no peace in that bed though. Who else is in that bed with you? Satan is the author of despair and perplexities. The Lord speaks in our hearts, directly to our spirit. 1 Cor. 6:17 “ But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” The enemy speaks uninvited to our minds; he is loud and intrusive. The Lord’s voice is gentle and will tell us what we “should” do; not what we “have” to do. Remember, the Lord gave us a free will.
When we lack clear direction, we wait. God does not mind waiting on His children to discern His will. The intrusive distractions from the enemy cause us to lose our “now” faith. Before we realize it, the world has done a 360 and our now faith has become yesterday’s missed it.
Don’t get caught up in the distractions. Focusing on the clamoring confusion from the enemy prevents our faith in today. Instead of the if’s from the devil focus on what God says to do; focus on ” whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. ” Phillipians 4:8.
As we are lying in that bed wondering who made it, our now faith is what allows the Lord to respond. “For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you ‘ ” Isaiah 41:13. Believing His Word, right now in your circumstance…no matter the circumstance, will provoke you to either get out of the bed and rejoice or stay in the bed and rejoice….either way you will rejoice in His grace and not be shaken by confusion. Your now faith in the Lord will always prove your foundation to be solid when all of the clutter and confusion is cleared and God’s peace is found – you will then know who made that bed and who was holding your hand the entire time. – the Lord your God. – Donna Warren
