“10 For Godly sorrow works repentance to Salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world work death.
11 For behold this selfsame thing, that you sorrowed after a Godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things you have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.” 2 Corinthians 7:10-11
Godly sorrow works repentance in the heart of man. It is the conviction of the Holy Spirit that which carefully shapes the condition of the heart if we so allow.
Condemnation of the world works sorrow as well but it is sorrow unto death. The shaping that occurs from this sorrow deadens as it hardens.
We who have believed upon Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior are not effected by the condemnation of the world. Our treasures are laid up in Heaven. They were bought with a price…a high price. The Blood of Jesus has redeemed whosoever will believe from worldly sorrow which wrought death in our heart.
Alive unto God, the Spirit of God quickens our mortal bodies to live unto Him when we fail and we repent. Our hearts have seen the Salvation of the Lord and we once again deny ourselves, pick up our cross and follow Jesus. Not ashamed of this Gospel, we know that we know that we know in Whom we have believed and we are persuaded that He is able to keep that which we have committed unto Him (1 Timothy 1:12).
Don’t be ashamed of Godly sorrow…be thankful, for it is working repentance in a heart that has been bent toward the sin nature to obey the lusts of the flesh.
