DEAD INDEED

“11 Likewise reckon you also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in the lusts thereof.” Romans 6:11-12

The Holy Spirit did not come on the Day of Pentecost to “improve” our sin nature nor did He come to do away with it’s evil. No, not at all.

The Holy Spirit came to isolate our sin nature so that we may be alive unto God THROUGH Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is alive. He is sitting at the Right Hand of the Throne of God. His eyes search the earth to and fro looking for those whose hearts are perfect toward Him that He may show Himself strong on their behalf (2 Chronicles 16:9).

It is the power of the Holy Spirit Who dethrones our sin nature when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour…not our self will. Humanistic psychology draped in Scripture will not empower our self will to overcome the reigning monarch of our heart, the sin nature. If such were so, the Cross of Christ was in vain.

In reality, those professing Christians who believe psychology is the answer has made the Cross of Christ of no effect. Try as they will to not obey the lusts of the flesh, their sin nature is not isolated and they are unable to live unto God.

Why? Because their faith placed in any other method other than the Cross of Christ Jesus has interrupted the work of the Holy Spirit in their heart. The fruit being birthed is fruit unto death…not God. Their spiritual adultery to overcome the power of sin has led to spiritual defeat. Bound in Egypt, their taskmaster demands righteousness but does not have the power to allow righteousness. Much like the false prophets of Baal, they run about starting the fires under the altar declaring and decreeing a lie both to themselves and unto God as their sin nature rules, reigns and mocks God. Seeing, they see not. Hearing, they hear not and neither do they understand.

“Howbeit when He, the Spirit of Truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come.” John 16:13

The Holy Spirit will not superintend the work of psychology in our heart. He is not commissioned to isolate out sin nature when we are looking unto other methods for power over sin. When John 16:13 was written, the Crucifixion had not yet happened but was “to come”. The Holy Spirit will show us; He will reveal unto us the power of God when our hearts are perfect toward Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Knowing it is JESUS, Who HE is and what HE has done to break the power of sin in our lives and affording us the ability to live unto God, the Holy Spirit will do a mighty work in our heart as our sin nature is utterly isolated by His power and not our own and we truly can reckon ourselves alive unto God.

As our faith is in the Cross of Christ, the Holy Spirit will show us He Who has come. He will reveal to us why He has come and we will be a witness to the power of His might as old things pass away and all things become new. We truly become a new creature in Christ Jesus. Our evil sin nature still remains in us and the flesh of which we dwell is bent toward obedience unto our sin nature…but it shall not have dominion over us as the Grace of God flows uninterrupted into our heart and lives and we continue looking unto Him in Whom we have believed – Jesus Christ and Him crucified, be determined to know nothing else among you.
