“For the Law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.” Hebrews 10:1
The Mosaic Law had no power to make the ‘comers thereunto’ perfect…and neither does the modern day religious rites and rituals. The Law was Holy and Righteous and was given to show fallen man their (our) need for a Savior. It was a type and shadow of the good things to come when Jesus Christ came to die on Calvary’s Cross to pay the penalty of sin AND break the power of sin.
You see, Jesus Christ afforded whosoever will believe the Grace of God which breaks the power of sin. Under the New Covenant, the Blood of Christ convicts of sin and breaks the power of sin. At Calvary, death, hell and the grave were defeated. The handwriting of Ordinances (the Mosaic Law) that was against us was blotted out; it was taken out of the way and nailed to the Cross of Christ. Jesus, having fulfilled the Law in it’s entirety, affords whosoever will believe the opportunity to be Baptized together with Him in HIS Death where we are dead to the sin and ALIVE unto Him.
“4 Therefore we are buried with Him by Baptism into Death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of His Death, we shall be also in the likeness of His Resurrection:
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.” Romans 6:4-6
Knowing this; knowing that the Law was a shadow of good things to come but had no power to allow those things, we choose to be crucified with Christ; buried with Him and HIS finished work…not ours, so that the Grace of God may utterly expel those things which are not of Him. The body of sin is destroyed and the Grace of God does It’s work in our heart. By Grace through faith in the Cross of Christ, we give the Holy Spirit latitude to do what HE is commissioned to do in our hearts and HE (the Holy Spirit) begins a mighty work in us. Our hearts are circumcised without hands; the law of God is written on our hearts. We are Born Again, born of the Spirit of God and a new creature in Christ Jesus.
There is no religious rite or ceremony that can do or attain what Jesus Christ did for whosoever will believe at Calvary. 40 days of purpose, 12 steps, 100 ways and all of the other vain philosophies that have come down the religious pike of Christendom, are nothing more than symbols of the symbol; more laws given to over come sin and produce fruit unto God…but they can’t.
Jesus Christ and Him alone broke the power of sin for the Child of God. He is at the door knocking. He that has ears let them hear. Be determined to know nothing else among you save Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
