“17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the Gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the Cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
18 For the preaching of the Cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:17-18
To some, this may be a lingo; a “phrase” that is Scriptural and validates what they are preaching as Truth…whether what it is Truth or not, this writer does not know. Sadly, the Truth is often presented along with man’s corrupted philosophy about the Truth in order to exalt man’s philosophy…NOT God’s Truth.
“And He (Jesus) said to them all, If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” Luke 9:23
However to others, to those who have denied vain philosophies, including their own vain philosophies, and have not rejected the Cross of Christ for victory over the world, the flesh and the devil, this “phrase”…this Scripture is LIFE because we know the power of God IS the Cross of Jesus Christ. Our pride and self will has been set aside as we look unto Jesus Christ, the Author and Finisher of our faith, for everything we need. Matthew 6:33, “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.“, has leaped off of the pages of our Bible and is somehow firmly planted deep in our heart as we know this Scripture to be true.
The devil still whispers his lies in our ears and the storms still rage around us which may in fact temporarily distract but our foundation is solid, we know in Whom we have believed. Even when circumstances are not necessarily pleasant, there is a peace beyond all understanding and a joy unspeakable to those who have believed upon Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. We understand Jesus Christ broke the power of sin on Calvary’s Cross (Romans 6:14) and when evil comes against us, we look unto Jesus. It is because of Who He is and what He did on Calvary’s Cross that we are afforded the power of God. As children, we deny our power and our will and seek HIS power to overcome that which is attempting to hinder God’s purpose for our life…HE is our Deliverer.
” 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the Gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18-19
The preaching of the Cross is more than a “lingo”… it is the power of God to us who are saved. To be frank and honest, if one does not understand this great truth, they do not understand the Atonement. Seek understanding…
“The heart of him that has understanding seeks knowledge: but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.” Proverbs 15:14
