“19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwells in me.
21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
22 For I delight in the Law of God after the inward man:
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the LAW OF SIN which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?” Romans 7:19-24 emphasis added
This law which dwelt in the Apostle Paul, causing him to do the evil which he would not and war against the law of his mind (the Mosaic Law) was the LAW OF SIN…the law of sin and death. Due to the fall of man (Adam’s original sin), we are all born with a sin nature; an evil nature that is bent on evil.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the LAW OF SIN and death.
3 For what the law (Mosaic Law) could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4 That the righteousness of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Romans 8:1-3 emphasis added.
There are many, untold thousands, of Believers who truly love the Lord but religion has fed them dose after dose of vain philosophies to overcome this law of sin which holds the Believer captive to besetting sin. Such Believers faith is in Jesus Christ and His redeeming work on Calvary’s Cross for their Salvation and praise the Lord for such a glorious Salvation! However, their faith to overcome the law of sin and death warring in their members has them isolated and bound because it has been corrupted by humanistic psychology and other vain philosophies. In the meantime, many other professing Christians condemn the bound to a devil’s hell or comfort them in their besetting sin instead of sharing with them the Gospel of Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
Somebody said, “But they know the Gospel”. If they are a born again Child of God, yes they do know the Gospel of Jesus Christ and Him crucified. However, what they do not know is their faith has been directed to their self will and self efforts for victory and they have left their first love, Jesus Christ. The devil has successfully corrupted their faith; which is the devil’s intent.
“18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18-19
The Gospel of Jesus Christ and Him crucified heals the brokenhearted and delivers the captives. Our faith placed solely and exclusively in Jesus and His finished work gives the Holy Spirit latitude to do that which He is commissioned to do…FREE us from the law of sin and death. The only law greater than the law of sin and death is the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus.
“If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.” John 8:36
Be determined to know nothing else among you, save Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Walk not after vain philosophies which appeal to the lusts of the flesh but after the Spirit of God, Who will free you from the law of sin and death.
